Professional Background

I studied at the University of Arkansas before completing a Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work at the University of Missouri. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 1992 in the state of Missouri and I have worked with victims of domestic and sexual violence for over 30 years.

I have advocated for women, children and families as a court advocate and lay witness in custody, divorce and discrimination cases. I have taught ethics for university students and supervise both students and social work candidates for licensure.

Approach to therapy

With individuals, I have an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from Feminist and strengths based theories and have been formally trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Harm Reduction.  I have been successful in helping clients manage depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders and chronic psychiatric conditions. Because of my social work background, I emphasize the importance of social support in our lives and the influence of culture on our thinking.

With couples and families I use a structural approach which emphasizes practical strategies and interventions for the purpose of changing patterns in relationships. I currently have Level 1 training in Gottman Method couples therapy.
